Aargh. It was with heavy hearts that the Pirates sailed home from their treks to Mazenod and Monash respectively. In what was a disappointing weekend for all members of the Pirate crew, the Seniors and Reserves both lost to Mazenod in disappointing fashion, and the Unders were sunk by a measly point! In a mixed result, the Thirds, fresh from their first ever triumph, came away with the points but …didn’t even get to play due to the other team hoisting the white flag up. Aargh! What a fantastic weekend of pirating that was! Started off with some incredible efforts by the Pirates on the battlefield and finished with the induction of our newest brethren into this mighty club in front of the pirate gods. The celebrations ran deep into the night, with much bonding occurring between old Pirate and new. On the football side of things, the U/19s put up a valiant showing…, severely undermanned they kept fighting until the end in true Pirates style, and were just edged out of what would’ve been a mighty victory. With the POBFC moving to C Grade for 2013, and an ever growing list of youth and returning pirate legends, the club has made the decision to field a thirds team for season 2013. The team will be coached by Evan Kemp, who served under Dogga Crean last year in the reserves and has played under Nick Claringbold and Barry Besanko previously. The main premise of the team will be to bring a squad of players together who cannot (for various reasons) commit to playing footy every week. It is finally here! The 2013 season is on our doorstep with round 1 this Saturday. The effort from coaches, players, the committee and supporters has been tremendous all throughout the preseason, leading to much excitement over what the season holds for all Pirate teams. The Pirates will have a thirds team for the first time ever in 2013, with Evan Kemp being appointed as coach. The season kicks off in style with a grand final rematch at home for the firsts, with all hoping they can avenge the heartbreaking loss to North Old Boys from last year. The POBFC Committee is extremely excited to announce that all 3 coaches from this year have been re-appointed to their current positions for 2013. Brett McIlwraith will lead the Seniors, Adam “Dogga” Crean the Reserves and Theo Messinis the Under 19s to build on one of the most successful seasons in the club’s history. We also have the great pleasure in announcing that our 3rds team will kick off in season 2013 and the club has appointed Brian Cronin as 3rds Coach and Mick Tollman as assistant coach.
